2012 Volunteer Opportunities

Listed below (by date) are volunteer positions available during the Market:

Any Job (Where I’m most needed)

Be willing to help with any of the jobs below, depending on Market needs.

Help Decorate the Site (July 2-12)

Explore your creative side!  Sign up for the Ambiance Decorating Team, and help put up spectacular decorations before the Market.

Booth Supplies (July 6-17)

Help prepare and distribute supplies used to sell folk art in the Artists’ booths.

Handyman (July 6-17)

Help set up Artists’ booths.

ABQ Airport Greeter for Artists (July 8-12)

Meet the Artists and Market participants at the airport for incoming flights and help with luggage and transportation.

Local Interpreters (July 9-17)

US Residents with needed language skills to interpret for Artists during artist training and during Market days in the booth.

Visitor Assistance Team (July 10-17)

Friendly faces are needed to provide hospitality and assistance to museum visitors by operating a golf cart shuttle before, during, and after the Market.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Artist Hospitality/Local Arrangements (July 11-16)

Help ensure the Artists and Market Participants get on the buses to their proper destinations during Training and Market days.

Artist Training (July 11-12)

One or two days of training, just prior to the Market, consisting of workshops to help Artists, develop capacity and build sales and marketing skills needed to promote their work at the Folk Art Market and internationally. 

Artist Meal Services (July 11-15)

Help serve meals to the Artists.  This is your chance to have individual contact with many artists from every corner of the globe.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Thursday Night Procession (July 12), Artists Procession in the Railyard

Meet and greet and eat and dance with the Artists, and Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corp.

Ambiance Sales (July 13-15)

Sell special Market items like hats, Market water bottles and more really cool novelties to our thousands of Market visitors.

Artist Assistant (July 13-15)

Assist an Artist with booth set-up and sales during the Market.  Must be at least 17 years old.

Admissions and Ticketing (July 13-15)

Help with ticket sales and ticket collection at the entrance; greet customers and manage customer lines.

Beverage Kiosks (July 13-15)

Work in the cool booth!  Sell soft drinks and water bottles to our thirsty Market visitors.

Cashier (experience preferred) (July 13-15)

Process payments at the payment booths.  Retail experience preferred.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Cashier Assistant (July 13-15)

Assist the Cashiers to help expedite sales and keep the payment lines moving efficiently.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Line Hosts (July 13-15)

If you are the kind of person who likes to make people happy, this is the job for you! Spread the Market magic to shoppers waiting to purchase their items or to board the shuttle to leave the Market site. When invited, give them information about who we are and what we do to change lives around the world.

Market Green Team (July 13-17)

Implement plans to increase all Market green efforts from re-usable water bottle sales to recycling.  A variety of jobs are available – all dedicated to keeping our environment clean. Help with booth and decoration break down and general clean-up after the Market.

Transportation Team (July 13-15)

Provide Market information, hospitality and assistance to guests as they load the buses at transportation centers and offsite parking lots.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Visitor Survey (July 13-15)

Be part of a team to talk with Market visitors and gather valuable information that helps us measure the Market’s impact on our region.  Your efforts will help us build our mailing list and work towards better serving our artists and our community. 

Finance/Tally/Artist Payout (July 14-17)

Add up artists’ sales and sort paperwork by booth number during the Market. Assist with artist payout and reconciliation on Monday and Tuesday following the Market, 10 keypad skills helpful. Must be at least 18 years old.

Volunteer Training

Attending a volunteer training session is mandatory for all – returning volunteers and newcomers alike.  Information about training will be sent to you once you are registered as a volunteer.
