Bead Work, Embroidery

From doll clothing to elaborate Chuvash head dresses, Zinaida Voronova’s skill with the needle is evident in the beauty and authenticity of the traditional designs she translates to cloth. Zinaida combines beads, coins, ribbons and lace with embroidery to create clothing and accessories in the Chuvash tradition. In Chuvash villages, making dolls and doll clothing as children was a way to learn how to spin, sew and embroider and, also, their folk arts.

Originally taught by her grandmother and mother, Zinaida further developed her knowledge of Chuvash embroidery and beadwork through her studies at the Chuvash College of Culture in Tsivilsk and the University of Folk Arts in Moscow.
