Embroidery
Xiuling Yang was born in a small village, in the Guizhou Province in southern China, where she learned embroidery from her grandmother. Now living in Beijing, she sells the work of tribal Miao women from Guizhou through the Caisangzi Cultural Center.
The Center protects the endangered Miao culture by providing training and marketing skills to lead Miao women out of poverty. The Center trains and purchases works from nearly 2000 Miao women in five counties, increasing their income and social status, and reinvesting the profits into the training program.
