Narrative Embroidered and Appliqué Textiles
Sanju Devi learned her craft at a very young age from the senior elderly women of her family. For the last 8 years she has been involved with an NGO working for the empowerment of women. Sutrakaar works directly with craftswomen to assist them in developing and marketing their artwork.
Sujani quilts, made of used textiles, are given as gifts for special occasions. Each piece is a story of a woman’s life, recounting festivals, weddings, and daily commerce.
Sanju received the UNESCO Award of Excellence in 2006.
