Papier-mâché
The city of Jacmel in southern Haiti is the birthplace of colorful costumes and papier-mâché masks used to celebrate Carnival. This winter, the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti so badly damaged Jacmel that the artisans completely lost their means of livelihood. In the spring, having received help purchasing materials, the artisans began producing again so they would have inventory for the Folk Art Market. ADASE has 307 artisans, one of which is Pierre Edgard, the president, who, along with Marie Bernard Pascale Faublas, will bring the work of this cooperative that is so important to the economic life of this community.
