Hand Block Printing
The village of Bagh near the town of Infore in the state of Madhya Pradesh is well known for its hand block printed fabrics. Mohammed has been printing since he was five years old alongside his parents. Mohammed uses silk cloth with a very high thread count and fine texture to create geometric and floral compositions with vegetable-based dyes. The fabrics are often dramatic combinations of white, red and black. From printing to multiple washings, each fabric can take weeks to complete.
In 2007, Mohammed Yusuf Khatri received the UNESCO Award of Excellence.
