Kala Raksha
Embroidery
Meghiben is an accomplished appliqué embroiderer who stitches complex narratives depicting women’s lives in Kutch. Of her work, she says: “These are my childhood memories...I believe we should remember all the struggles we faced in our life.”
In a large embroidery, “My Life,” Meghiben recalls first seeing the lights of an electric train, having never heard of electricity.
She works with the Kala Raksha Trust, a grassroots social enterprise that preserves traditional arts through support of more than 500 marginalized women from seven Kutch communities.
