Embroidery
Kakuben is an embroidery artisan who has worked with SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre for 15 years. She once struggled to make a living through low-paid work, having to leave her nine-month old child at home.
With the creation of SEWA, a grassroots artisan-owned enterprise, Kukuben and other craftswomen have gained employment and economic security.
SEWA currently represents 3,500 artisan shareholders in 80 villages in the state of Gujarat, where it stresses efficient coordination in the design, production, and marketing of members’ works.
