Unay Pallay Asociacion de Tejedoras Indigenas de Candelaria
Weavings, Traditional Cloth, Leather Hats
Unay Pallay Asociación de Tejedores IndÃgenas de Candelaria was formed three years ago with the encouragement of a Peace Corps volunteer working in the village. With additional assistance, the community built a museum and textile store and founded the weaving cooperative. Julia Flores began weaving as a child, learning from her mother. Today she lives with her husband and three children where she is teaching her daughter to weave. Julia is known for her large wall hangings depicting stories of cultural traditions and myths. She is one of the founders, and president, of the local cooperative that represents 43 male and female weavers.
