Glazed, Appliqued and Molded Ceramic Pottery
One of Mexico’s most recognized folk potters, Hilario Alejos from San Jose de Gracia, Michoacan, is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Premio Fomento Cultural Banamex. His highly traditional ornamental pineapple pots, elaborated with techniques of appliqué and openwork, require exceptional mastery not only in the clay work but in the dual firings required. Working not only in the familiar green glossy glaze, Hilario often utilizes yellows and blues for his pots, candelabras, and punchbowls that are highly sought by collectors.
