Rebozos

With their bold striped patterns, Cecilia’s classic rebozos, or long scarves, convey a modern aesthetic.  Although the scarves look contemporary, the method used to create them is both time-consuming and traditional. Cecilia dyes her thread in indigo in large earthenware pots. Using a backstrap loom that she made with her aunt, Julia Ramirez, she then weaves the scarves with a single thread taffeta weave.  She began weaving at age ten under her mother’s supervision. Cecilia now works with her aunt and they live in the village of Paracho in the state of Michoacán.
