Boubacar Doumbia
Mali
Year(s) attended: 2010
Bogolan
Now an artist and teacher of traditional mud cloth dying techniques, Boubacar Doumbia learned the artistic styles of Bogolan and Gala from his family and community when he was a young boy.
Boubacar later earned a degree in the traditional arts of mud cloth dying and now teaches at an international art school in Mali.
The fabric-dying techniques are traditionally from Ségou- Mali and utilize both mud and leaves to make the natural red, brown, blue and ochre colored dyes. Clothes made from the cloth are traditionally worn by Bambar natives both casually and ceremonially.
