Artists from all over the world come to Santa Fe to share their unique art at the Folk Art Market. This is your chance to create folk art inspired by artists from Africa, South America, Europe and Asia! Make amazing art out of recycled objects and possibly take a field trip or two. There are three camp sessions this week; one for children entering Preschool/Kindergarten, one for children entering grades 1-3 and entering grades 4-6. As part of International Folk Art Market Week, The Traveler’s Market is hosting an exciting evening of events on Tuesday, July 6th. An exhibit & sale of Embera Masks of Panama opens at 5:30 pm. These colorful fiber masks are woven by the Embera people of the Panamanian rainforest.
At 6 pm Carrie Haley of Art Resource Connection will discuss “Documenting Your Collection”. Ms Haley has a master’s degree In Pacific & Asian Art History & has documented a wide variety of collections, including antique tribal African, Asian Oceanic & Native American Art. This is a topic sure to be of interest to anyone with an art collection of any kind, large or small.
At 6:30 pm we are pleased to welcome Shamlu Dudeja, who will be speaking about ‘Kantha Embroidery of India”. Shamlu is the founder of SHE (Self Help Enterprise), a non profit co-op in Kolkat India dedicated to training seamstresses in this traditional craft Shamlu has brought these beautiful textiles to Folk Art Market each year. She will talk about the positive impact this has had on the lives & communities of the women who have worked with the co-op.
Refreshments will be served.
Door prizes include 2 tickets (valued at $125. each) to the Friday night Folk Art Market Opening Party.

Victor Vásquez Dávila returns from Oaxaca to Santa Fe this year after a successful presentation at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market in 2009. Sponsored by the Patricia A. La Farge Foundation for Folk Art, Victor will be representing himself and approximately 15 other wooden-animal carvers and painters from the major villages around Oaxaca, Mexico. The Exhibition at the Jay Etkin Gallery will run daily from July 6th to July 12th, inclusively, from 10AM to 5PM. The show will also include an exhibition of floor-cloth paintings by Sheila Etkin, inspired by the colorful and intricate Oaxacan wooden animals, and there will be an interesting video recording of the Oaxacan Artisans at work.

On Wednesday, July 7th there will be a Gallery Talk at 10AM.
On Thursday, July 8th there will be a Free Workshop for Children at 10AM to learn the hands-on techniques of finishing and painting the carved wooden animals. An adult escort and advance reservations required; snacks will be provided. Reservations may be made by calling (505) 699-4688.
On Friday, July 9th there will be a Gallery Talk at 2PM.

CHILDREN’S PASSPORT PROGRAM Starting at 9AM
Museum Hill
The Children’s Passport Program takes place during the Sunday Market “Family Day”. After receiving a passport, children grades K-6 ‘tour the world’, where they learn about the arts, crafts, people and countries represented. As well as interacting with the artists, children collect flag stickers from each country they visit, to put in their passports. At the end of their journey they receive a sticker that states they have ‘Traveled the World at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market’. The program strives to awaken in children, an awareness about the many countries and cultures that exist in the world.
