Work by Tatyana Petrova

The intricate embroidered work form the Chuvash Republic of Russia is unique to this region. Tatyana earned her craft as a child and refined her skills during her years attending the Kalinin Arts industrial College studying embroidery designs and production techniques. Her specialty is the production of Chuvash traditional items whose origins can be traced back many centuries. Her pieces are all handmade and many of the threads are hand spun. She incorporates intricate weaving techniques in some of the costumes and these items must be seen close up to get the full appreciation of the skill involved in creating these items.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
