Sanya learned the art of storytelling through wood carving from her brother. The work is made from scrap pieces of wood which are turned into the folk tales and stories of the Lagos people. The work is particular to Lagos and is often used as decorative pieces in homes, offices and in public places to show the daily life of people and to make statements on current historical and cultural events which affect them.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
