Moisés was taught to carve figures and animals from copal wood by his grandfather, Manuel Jiménez, who created the Arrazola style of woodcarving that has attracted international attention among collectors. Beginning at the age of 13, Moisés would accompany his grandfather to select the wood for carvings and “Little by little I was taught to identify the animal that was within the wood.” He has dedicated himself to this Zapotec art form for 22 years.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
