Izzatillo Ruziev
Bukhara-style Jewelry

Working in a range of techniques – molding or imprinting, filigree, embossing, forging and engraving, Izzatillo combines gold, silver, german silver and other metals with semiprecious stones to create jewelry that continues centuries of fine craftsmanship. Apprenticed at a young age to a master goldsmith, he was schooled in the molding, forging and gem incrustation techniques commonly used in 19th century Bukhara. Recently, Izzatillo has been involved in a project focused on reviving jewelry-making techniques from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Izzatillo’s necklaces, bracelets, rings, pendants and earrings elaborate styles and designs within the renowned Bukhara tradition of Central Asia. This jewelry not only adorned – and still adorns – but also signified origin as well as social and marital status, and continues to be an important part of dowry and heritage.
