Work byHaiger Sana and Khadra Elsaneh

Haiger is 58 years old, a mother of nine children, and part of Sidreh, a nonprofit organization established in 1998 to empower, represent and improve the socio-economic situation of Bedouin women living in Israel. Sidreh works with some of the most underprivileged in Israel, among whom education levels are also alarmingly low. The aim of the Weaving Project is to preserve this beautiful tradition, while promoting employment and small business development that restores the self-esteem of Bedouin women and earns them respect within their own community.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
