Work by Ganna Nepyivoda

Ganna represents the Hutsul, an ethno-cultural group of Ukrainian highlanders who are known for colorful and sophisticated embroidery, carpet weaving, and egg decorating.

Born in the village of Vyzhnyi Bereziv, Ganna learned traditional embroidery and carpet weaving from her mother, but later gained skills in leatherwork and pysanka (Ukrainian painted eggs).

Ganna considers her mission not merely in preservation and revival of ancient traditions in her own works, but also in strengthening public awareness on this issue through advising women of her community and teaching her students.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
