Farkhod Akhmedov

Farkhod comes from a family who has practiced the ancient craft of metal engraving for generations. Inspired by rich traditions he began learning the craft at 10 years old working at his father’s side. In 2006 his work earned a UNESCO Seal of Excellence which acknowledged Farkhod as a master craftsman. His products are all handmade and include trays, pitchers, bowls and other house hold items which are still used at traditional events in Uzbekistan today and they are often given as wedding presents to honor the bride and groom. The intricate carvings depict ancient Islamic designs and incorporate copper, leaded brass and aluminum materials.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
