The women of Chincontepec, Veracruz use a firm hand, sharp eyes and a powerful imagination to create the embroidery that graces their colorful native dress, such as blouses and skirts, as well as items for domestic use. The profuse floral motifs reflect their intimate relationship with their natural environments.

Bajelia learned to embroidery at the age of twenty-three after her husband passed away and she needed income to raise her two children.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
