Work by Angel Raul Beraun Loyola

Educated as an engineer, Angel could not find work during Peru’s period of political insurgency in the 1980s. His village of San Jeronimo, known for its silver work, gave him an opportunity to develop what started out as a hobby into a vocation.  Angel uses a lost-wax process to create traditional forms such a tupus (shawl pins) and earrings. Angel has invested some of his Market profits by purchasing a piece of property in his village, new tools, classes in English and marketing, and an alarm clock-so that he can start his day earlier.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
