Work by Angel Ortiz Gabriel

Angel Ortiz Gabriel grew up with his artisan grandparents and mother in Tonala, a town known for its distinctive narrative pottery. Since childhood, he has created handmade pottery such as decorated plates, vases, nahuales, bowls and traditional Tonala masks. He is currently dedicating himself to reviving pottery styles from the 1920′s that include traditional country designs called “Fantasia” (fantasy) and polychrome floral designs. His unique style is easily recognizable. Angel is honored to be able to keep alive old stories and traditions, and bring aesthetic pleasure to people’s lives.

The Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, a non-profit organization, produces the largest international folk art market in the world, and our success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art.
